Harnessed Tiger Moth

Apantesis phalerata

Description:

A smaller, darker banded tiger moth. Cream bands along the veins. Although not photographed, it had orange underwings with black patterns along the lower margin. This may be a female, as the bands are very bold and thick.

Habitat:

Spotted on a sheet hanging on my porch with black lights and halogens shining on it at night to attract moths. We live in a gated lake community surrounded by rural agricultural land, and some wooded areas. National Moth Week 2017.

Notes:

Apologies, no underwing photo.
