Winter Moth

Operophtera brumata

Description:

Females of this genus have vestigial wings. It had a row of black rings going down each side of the abdomen. A few days after taking this, there were hundreds of these in the yard. I found several mating pairs and lots of them were just flying around the yard or sitting on the outside of the house.

Habitat:

Suburban yard next to a dried-up, forested swamp
