Pseudacris crucifer
Light brown skin with darker markings, including a distinctive X-shaped mark on its back. It can darken or lighten it's skin color to better camouflage itself in only a few minutes. This one was approximately 1/2 inch in size.
Spotted in a very swampy, mostly deciduous forest at Whittemore Sanctuary.
Spring peepers make a natural anti-freeze, which allows them to survive freezing temperatures while hibernating.
