Bulbine

Bulbine frutescens

Description:

South African native with narrow, succulent green leaves reminiscent of an Aloe. Long flower stalks rise above the foliage, spring through late summer. Delicate buds have a unique green center stripe, opening to deep orange flower spikes with frilly yellow stamens.

Habitat:

Wildlife habitat yard.

Notes:

The bulbine frutescens is an African native and is commonly called ‘burn jelly plant’. Bulbines contain glycoproteins, similar to many aloe species and are touted for similar healing properties as Aloe vera, such as to ease burns, rashes and itches.
