Queen of Spain fritillary

Issoria lathonia

Description:

Bright orange and very attractive fritillary with a pattern of regular rows of black spots; and a green-greyish zone around the body. Medium sized, approx 5 cm of wingspan.

Habitat:

This is a migratory species, present around the Palearctic realm, and usually found in open grasslands. Here, seen in rural, hilly and well wooded environment, on edges of those woods, and close to pastures of Pilat Regional parc in France.
