Strikingly red jumping spider that is also extremely large.

Found in an open grassy area

These spiders are often mistaken for velvet ants which look similar.

There was one of these on my front walk this morning. Not sure if he was just chilly, or unaware that he was in plain sight, but he didn't even twitch when I walked past to the mailbox. Where spiders are concerned, I don't bother them as long as they don't bother me.
