Crimson Medinilla

Description:

Medinilla miniata Merr. (family Melastomataceae), is a native to the Philippines. It is an epiphytic tropical evergreen shrub called Crimson Medinilla. The clusters of scarlet-red flowers ringed with bright purple hang from the end of a long stem below the plant. The flowers are formed in very large pendulous racemes. The brilliantly crimson flowers have yellow stigmas and blue pollen tubes, creating a stunning contrast.

Habitat:

Makiling Botanic Gardens, a 300-hectare forest park of the Mt. Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, UPLB-College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines at Los Baños, Laguna.
