Etlingera elatior
Etlingera elatior (known as torch ginger, ginger flower, ginger lily, torch lily, wild ginger, Philippine wax flower, Indonesian tall ginger), family Zingiberaceae, is a robust and erect herbaceous perennial plant growing in large clumps 3-6 m high. The flowering stalk is separate from the leafy stem. The leaves are distichous, up to 1.5 m long. Flower head is large and surrounded by large, red, involucrate bracts. The plant is widely distributed in Malaysia, has been introduced in the Philippines and is now widely cultivated elsewhere.
