Crabseye Lichen

Ochrolechia subplicans

Description:

Lovely little button-like lichens. They cover large areas of the rocks and from afar I mistakenly thought the rocks were covered in bird poop instead of lichens

Habitat:

Large boulders on the beach

Notes:

I posted these in a Facebook group and I got comments that they look like "cookie ghost faces," honeycomb cereal, kodamas, and so many other interesting comparisons. They seem to spark the imagination!
