Liverwort (Porella)

Porella sp.

Description:

Leafy liverwort clump with very tiny scaly structures on thin stems. Growing directly on rock surface and providing mat structure for other plants to germinate and grow in.

Habitat:

Spotted growing on granite outcropping on top of Kennesaw Mountain (near a spring)

Notes:

Very similar in appearance to liverwort specimen spotted previously nearby http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/179... However, "leaves" and plant structures are much smaller, tighter, and dense.
