Argus Tortoise Beetle

Chelymorpha cassidea

Description:

A turtle-shaped leaf beetle. Bright red/orange with large black spots. Very shiny and about 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) long. Summer 2012

Habitat:

Meadow abundant with weeds and wild flowers on my property.

Notes:

From my "lost file folder". The only tortoise beetle spot I have. See larva spot. Larvae can cause significant damage to host plants. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/113...
