Fowler's Toad

Anaxyrus fowleri

Description:

This is the smaller of a pair, seen about 10' apart in my garden. Are those orange growths behind the tympanium remnant gills, or is it just a messy eater? (The other toad doesn't have the growths.)

Habitat:

Garden/driveway, hilly/mountainous, 1216' elevation

Notes:

Shot on iPhone 6+
