Green Scarab Beetle

Oxysternon conspicillatum

Description:

large, bulky beetle, this is the female. I saw the male with its large horn but they were more rare than the females and I couldn't get any photos of them.

Habitat:

primary rainforest

Notes:

These huge beetles turned out be to fairly common. I was super excited to see my first one up close but ended up having plenty of more opportunities to photograph them. I always knew when they were around because they are so loud in flight, you couldn't miss them when they flew by. I even had one land on my shoulder!
