Treehopper

poss guayaquila gracilicornis

Description:

These Treehoppers are all guarding nests. They are also attended by ants.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 5.5 months into the 6 month rainy season.

Notes:

Spotted this and many times on Ixora. The ants and the hoppers have a wonderful symbiotic relationship where the hoppers excretions contain sugars that feed the ants and the ants, in exchange, protect them and their young.
