Description:

Small shrub, 2 – 4 feet high. Flowers maroon-brown; ca. 1 inch diameter; leathery petals; usually in pairs. Leaves simple, opposite.

Habitat:

Growing on east-facing hill above lake.

Notes:

Plant often blooms before it leafs out.
