Spotting

Description:

Quite weird (for me) flowers (?) popping up straight out of the ground... like a fungus. Ranging in size across from 1cm to 5 or 6 cm diameter. Quite bright pink/read sharply pointed petals. Petals in layers in a very lotus like arrangement. When pushing through the soil the petals are closed in a bud, and seem to open out as the flower clears ground level. extraordinary.

Habitat:

Seen scattered amongst the leaf litter on the ground of rainforest along the borders of Lake Tanganyika.
