Raccoon

Procyon lotor

Description:

A medium-sized mammal native to North America. The raccoon is the largest of the procyonid family, weighing between 8 to 20 lb. Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur which insulates it against cold weather. Two of the raccoon's most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws and its facial mask,

Habitat:

Wooded swamp

Notes:

I happened upon this raccoon foraging in the middle of the day. The locals believe he was someone's pet that was dumped in the park.

Thanks everyone! Yes, he was furiously foraging for food! Nonstop digging and grabbing! I have never photographed a raccoon before. Was so excited to finally get the chance, during the day no less!

Eduardo, the habitat section is for the habitat in which the person saw the organism, not the general habitat for the species.
