Dicentra peregrina
Also known by its Japanese name 'Komakusa'. A herbaceous perennial growing 10-15 cm from a rhizome from the Poppy family. Dense grey-green, deeply notched leaves in a rosette. Flowers are a dark pink with 4 petals the outer of which are pouched at the base and then curl back at the ends.
High alpine and semi alpine habitat in stony scree and between split rocks. Found from north-east Siberia down to northern Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands and Japan. This plant found in north-east Siberia near the coast.
While the name Bleeding Heart is quite obvious the Japanese name comes from the likeness of the buds to the shape of a horses head (koma).

Yes Mark, I have been very lucky and seen some amazing plants and animals in some amazing places. It's great to be able to share some of them with you guys.
You sure get to some exotic places. :)
Thank you Ashley. Fantastic to be nominated.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thank you all for your comments and likes. I tripped over this beautiful plant on an otherwise nearly barren scree slope. I am glad you have enjoyed it.
