Black-and-white Mannikin

Lonchura bicolor

Description:

Small African estrildid finch, about 10cm in length. Easily recognized by its colors - black above with white belly, and silvery-grey seedeater bill.

Habitat:

Common bird in Western and Central Africa, seen in variety of habitats - here in urban setting. Seen at outskirts of town Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State of Nigeria, and located in the middle of Niger river Delta, in the midst of streams, forests and marshes.

Notes:

In spite of being very common, I had to wait long years before checking this case off... Lifer for me, and it seems like a lifer for Project NOAH too.
