Eucalyptus Long-horned Borer

Phoracantha semipunctata

Description:

A long beetle with very long antennae that have spines along them. Dark coloured with lighter markings in the centre and the base of the elytra. The larvae of these beetles feed on dead and dying decay in Eucalyptus trees.

Habitat:

Found near native bushland, around 7km from the coast. Near Eucalyptus sp. Acacia sp. Melaleuca sp. and Angophora sp. Attracted to nightlight. Sugar cane farms nearby.
