Mole Cricket

Gryllotalpa orientalis

Description:

Peculiar looking insect...head is oddly large, wings look too short to support flight and a good burrower!

Habitat:

My garden...not sure if it crept out of the bag of organic manure or from under it. However it burrowed into the soil extremely rapidly and disappeared in seconds!

AlyceDodge Nice isn't it when you see a species for the first time. I find that when I do...I see it again and again...as if my eyes are now recognizing it better after having seen it for the first time..

It's a mole cricket. I'm not familiar with the ones in your area but that might help you get searching in the right direction.
