Penelope jacquacu
Spix's Guan is the size of a chicken, with sable to black body color streaked with white speckles on the breast and shoulders. The underside may be brown. The wattle beneath its beak is brilliant red, and its feet and legs are bright pink. The feathers on its crown raise into a crest when excited. It's a placid bird, often found around nature lodges.
Spix's Guan roosts in trees and also forages for food there. It is hunted for food by local peoples.
This bird wandered around the lodge (Otorongo Expeditions Jungle Lodge) in a friendly fashion, and had acquired the name Penelope (after it's genus name).
