Calopteryx splendens
Iridescent blue large damselfly, member of the Calopterygidae (family enclosing large, often metallic colored, damselflies) body size some 50 mm, wingspan some 70 mm. In repose, wings kept upwards. Portrayed here is male, easily recognized by its two broad blue bands on all four translucent wings. Female (not pictured) has translucent wings tinted metallic green.
Banded demoiselle is an Eurasian species, and is widespread in Europe and Asia, and common within its range usually found along slow-flowing streams and rivers. Here, seen in a protected zone of Krka NP, where Krka river forms a series of waterfalls and lakes; and the river is surrounded by a magnificent dense broad-leaved forest. Its shores are rich in vegetation; both wetland and dryland.
