White-spotted Prepona

Archaeoprepona amphimachus

Description:

A medium to large sized butterfly feasting on ripe mango on a tree beside the lodge. Wingspan: 50–58 mm. Adults feed at sap runs and also attend carrion, dung and rotting fruit on the forest floor.

Habitat:

in the garden of a lodge in a clearing in dense humid tropical montane forest

Notes:

The prepona butterfly is the fastest butterfly in the forest. It can fly from 30–50 mph.
