Giant Monkey Frog, Giant Leaf Frog, Waxy-monkey Treefrog

Phyllomedusa bicolor

Description:

Nearly five inches long, this giant frog doesn't hop, but instead climbs around in trees and shrubs like a monkey, hence the name. This is a nocturnal, arboreal frog and because it spends most of its time out of water, its skin has a waxy coating to conserve water. They began to call just after dark "bwack! bwack!"

Habitat:

These lived in trees a few yards from the Amazon River, at night they were scrambling around in shrub, calling.
