Leaf Cutter Ant

Description:

Leaf Cutter Ants carrying leaves down a tree trunk. Several leaves had a small guard ant riding along on the top of the leaf. It is believed that these small ants aid in watching for aerial predators (see second picture).

Habitat:

Huasteca Forest, Edward James Surrealism Park, Xilitla, San Luis Potosí.
