Turbulent Phosphila Moth Caterpillars

Phosphila turbulenta

Description:

Family: Noctuidae. Subfamily: Noctuinae. Tribe: Phosphilini. An uncommon caterpillar/moth in my area. Black pinstripes with yellow/orange underneath. Cool black and white spotted "double" heads. Last instar. Host plant: Greenbrier. (Length: 1.25 inches?)

Habitat:

Open woodlands. I think if I recall correctly. It was at the beginning of the path into my woods from the yard.

Notes:

Found this one photo on a forgotten external hard drive just a few minutes ago. I thought at first these were sawfly larvae.

They're cool, Carol. As so often happens, the caterpillars are well dressed but the moths look rather dull.
