Loggerhead Shrike

Lanius ludovicianus

Description:

I describe these as hawk wannabees. Black, white and gray, this predatory song bird species has a hooked like bill and hunts. It's prey is insects, small reptiles, amphibians and even small birds. Because it lacks talons, it impales it's prey on barbed wire fences or thorns on plants.

Habitat:

This one was found in Arizona near the Colorado River
