This lone monarch was found fluttering around among some dried leaves and seed pods in a bird refuge near Carlsbad, California right near the ocean. Very weak and fragile looking, it may not make it through the winter to join the spring migration of monarchs.

Yes and their migration is always fascinating to me. We do not have Monarchs in our area of BC but I have seen them in the eastern states on the milkweed plants and then in southern California at some overwintering sites. Would love to travel to their overwintering mountain forest spot in Mexico but that may not happen! This one seemed dry and wispy like the vegetation it was haunting.
I was pleased to see the efforts being made by Mex and US together over these.
