Hairstreak Butterfly

Calycopsis sp.

Description:

A small brown and gold Hairstreak, about 1 cm in length and with two small hair tails on each hind wing. When I first saw it, the wings were closed (last 3 pictures) and I had been expecting the upper side to be blue, so it was a surprise to find a golden brown. I think it is in the genus Calycopsis, but I am not sure of the species. Family Lycaenidae, subfamily Theclinae.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
