Description:

Smyrnium olusatrum, common name Alexanders, is a cultivated flowering plant, belonging to the family Apiaceae (or Umbelliferae). It is also known as alisanders, horse parsley, and smyrnium. It was known to Theophrastus and Pliny the Elder. The pictured plants were spotted near Kato Gatzea settlement, Pagasitikos gulf, Greece.

Notes:

Alexanders is a feed source much appreciated by horses. In Homer's Iliad, Achilles horses used to feed in "wild selery", as the plant is widely known in Greece.
