Panthera
A male Liger, recognised by a short mane, dark brown striped pattern, golden background colour, underparts are pale. The liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger and is the largest of all known extant felines.
Spotted at Taman Safari, Indonesia, today ligers exist only in captivity but historically, when the Asiatic lion was prolific, the territories of lions and tigers did overlap and there are legends of ligers existing in the wild.
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Family: Felidae Subfamily: Pantherinae Genus: Panthera Species: P. leo♂ × P. tigris♀
