Mediterranean Tiger Blue

Tarucus rosaceus

Description:

"Size: 18-22 mm. Like Tarucus balkanicus but the underside of the hindwing line proximal to spots is broken at the veins;the upperside of the wing of the male is blue with fewer spots; while in the females is hard to separate." ~ Butterflies of Egypt

Habitat:

spotted on the basil plant in my desert garden

Notes:

Little Tiger Blue (Tarucus balkanicus) also present in Egypt but reported sighting in NE Sinai so I think this is the Mediterranean species based on location.
