Lesser Cucurbit Fly

Didacus Ciliatus

Description:

A wasp like, small fly with distinctive yellow markings set in a brown body. this species attacks various Cucurbit plant species such as watermelons, pumpkins, gourds and gem squashes. Most likely appearing in our house because of our cucumber growing program.

Habitat:

Prefers arid regions that are natural or cultivated where the Cucurbits are growing. because of our recent long hot summer here I am not surprised to see them.
