Purple Spotted Swallowtail

Description:

Endemic to the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, these swallowtails live in elevations of 4,500 to 8,000 feet. Seen at 7175 ft, 2174 meters. zipping around a stream like a speedy Gonzales ! Took this 2nd photo where you can see the upper wings, when it stopped for seconds to nectar on some wild flowers growing beside the stream. This is the more common Purple one, 2nd photo. Habitat:

Beside a stream in the Highlands of West Papua, surrounded by Primary montane rainforest.

Notes:

The name honours the collector Emil Weiske.
