This earthworm was wriggling around with peristalsis movement.(the involuntary constriction and relaxation of the muscles of the intestine or another canal, creating wavelike movements that push the contents of the canal forward.) It might be trying to expel some mud.

It was at the edge of the grass. Probably wanted to shake the water off after the rains.
