A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Egretta caerulea
The little blue heron stands about 24 inches in height. An adult is dark slate-blue with a bill that is blue with a dark grey tip. The little blue heron is unusual because the juvenile birds look completely different than the adults; they have an all white body with green legs.
They can be found along the shoreline where they very slowly stalk their prey. The little blue heron can be found in freshwater lakes, marshes, and wetlands. They are also found in saltwater areas.
