Thanks for the great info Malcolm. This snow bunting must have come here a little bit to early this spring, I hope he/she will find some food around here.

It may seem odd but actually they are one of those species which lives on insects in summer and seed and strandline invertebrates on beaches in winter. Their preferred habitat is on the edge of the snow line in summer, so either in the arctic or high mountains, while in winter pebbled beaches where they can still find invertebrates, so not where it is frozen over. Where you are there is too much snow for any of its preferred foods!

Thanks Malcolm. It's always fun to see something new, that's the best thing with taking pictures.. That's the strange thing about this bird, it's called snow bunting but the bird is not here at winter :-P

Nice shots Stian, I saw my first one last week and then another today. Both were in the same place almost but today I got very close and got some good shots. It was by the pebble beach and marshes north of Valencia so may well have spent the winter here and will head north soon. I won't be posting the pictures just yet, I still have a backlog from my Malaysia/Borneo trip.
