Fulvous-breasted woodpecker

Dendrocopos macei

Description:

Back appears to be striped in black and white. The buff coloured chest is plain. red colour near the rump. Crown is black, so this one must be a female.

Habitat:

Kayaler bagan or Kayal's garden is now a bird sanctuary in the heart of Kolkata city. Although called a garden, it is not a landscaped area with only garden varieties...rather everything growing wild is preserved.Old, epiphyte laden trees rub branches with bamboo groves and wild vines trail all over . So called weeds flourish. It is also called Chintamani Kar Bird Sanctuary. ...a 17 acre small enclosed area. This bird spent such a LONG time preening that my arms began to ache holding up the camera. It was easily 20 feet above my head...on an old , old tree.

Notes:

This is my 2500th spotting. Thank you, PN.
