Grow in symbiosis with Polytrichum sp. moss, Hungarian oak forest.
It grows on moss, particularly Chorisodontium aciphyllum, Polytrichum strictum, and Andreaea species. Pixie cup lichen occurs in Europe, North America, and the southernmost part of South America. It also grows in the Antarctic.
