Spring Peeper

Pseudacris crucifer

Description:

Small tan frogs with reddish-brown markings on the back.

Habitat:

Forest edge along the rear of my yard with a few scattered pines, plenty of leaf litter and some container ponds landscaped with native plants.

Notes:

This is the first year I have attracted Spring peepers to my yard. I was hoping they were there to breed and to my great pleasure, last night I confirmed that! While I was photographing the calling male, I heard a rustling in the leaves, I looked over to find a plump little female. As I watched in disbelief, she hopped closer to the male. As she got nearer, the male climbed down and then hopped over to her and grabbed on! I snapped a couple quick ones and left the future parents alone!
