Oyster Mushroom

Pleurotus ostreatus

Description:

This was my first encounter with an oyster mushroom, and at the time, I didn't even realize! Oyster Mushrooms are common and sought out for their edibility. They have a very pleasant odor--some have described it as apple-like.

Habitat:

Emerging from a fallen pine at Lake Catherine State Park, near Hot Springs, Arkansas.
