Hieroglyphic Moth

Description:

The Hieroglyphic Moth, Diphthera festiva, is a species of moth in the family Nolidae and is the only moth in its subfamily Diphtherinae. It has a wide tropical distribution from the southern United States south through Brazil. This specimen from southern Chiapas has very small spots on the ends of the forewings compared to spottings from San Luis Potosí (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/199...) and the west coast of Oaxaca (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/491...).

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light, Finca Argovia, Ruta de Café, Soconusco Area of Chiapas, about 2 hours north of Tapachula.
