They do need to make a common name! I am always bummed out when they don't have common names. Then I start to think of some for them. Haha!

You are right. I thought the legs looked quite distinctive. No common name? Someone needs to make one up!

Tammy, I'm not sure the body shape and coloration match the Carolina Wolf Spider. Here is a nice image of a male and female (with babies):

Your spider has more white and looks less bulky. As far as I can tell, none of the spiders in Genus Hogna have those furry areas on the front legs.

Your spider seems to more closely resemble Schizocosa crassipes (which doesn't have a common name):

Thanks! I believe you are correct. I think it is a male Carolina wolf spider, our state spider. It was definitely less than an inch and the males are smaller. Thanks for your help!

Hi Tammy, cool find! This looks like a male Wolf Spider from Genus Schizocosa. They have the brush of black hairs on the front legs.
