A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Charadrius vociferus
A small brown bird that lives near an elementary school in the area. It and two others live in the nearby hydro-field and forage for food in the schoolyard. The chest of it has two black stripes overtop of a white and tawny coloured belly.
This bird lives in short grass areas where the grass is usually no taller than one inch. These birds like to nest on gravel rooftops and in short grass.
The call of the Killdeer reflects it's name as it sounds like kill-deer, and can be heard during the day and night
