Killdeer

Charadrius vociferus

Description:

A small brown bird that lives near an elementary school in the area. It and two others live in the nearby hydro-field and forage for food in the schoolyard. The chest of it has two black stripes overtop of a white and tawny coloured belly.

Habitat:

This bird lives in short grass areas where the grass is usually no taller than one inch. These birds like to nest on gravel rooftops and in short grass.

Notes:

The call of the Killdeer reflects it's name as it sounds like kill-deer, and can be heard during the day and night
