Progne subis
Males a purple/black with brown/black wings and females and immature birds are duller and have a lighter chest to belly with blotchy flanks. Where it the east most have gotten use to nest mainly in man-made Purple Martin hotels, the ones in the west still nest in cavities or holes in trees.
These were found in a high elevation, flying around an old forest that was burned down by a fire. The were flying high over head and nesting in old woodpecker holes.
Most were females and immature. Only saw one male. Sometimes hard to see, their call that seemed to sound like some other swallows but with a gurgling sound set them apart.
