Round Sting ray

Urolophus halleri

Description:

If i were to choose between a string ray or skate fish ,i would choose sting ray. A ventral view would surely help. This was swimming very fast and burying itself completely under algae as it went along.

I am inclined to agree. I have heard (emphasis on heard... I've had no personal experience) that sting rays tend to swim lower to the bottom, while skates tend to be found more in the middle between the bottom and the surface. (Hence the reason we do the "sting ray shuffle" here in Florida.)
