Study of gall inducing scale insect

Schedotrioza sp.

Description:

This tree is heavily infested with gall inducing scale insects. A dissection revealed several nymphs inside each gall.

Habitat:

Occasional trees become heavily infested.

Notes:

Early on a summer day, they erupt and emergent bugs fly off to sing (see link below) and dance (oh, and to mate). http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/144... http://www.psyllids.org/SchedotriozaSOUN... http://www.psyllids.org/psyllidsPacific....
