Description:

Also known as the Bee panther. This is a large Robber fly 4cm long. Mimics a bee and has been known to take down hummingbirds.

Habitat:

Spotted on a rock at Lake Catherine State Park. Dry creek bed in a mixed forest. Plenty of butterflies and grasshoppers around for it to eat.

Thanks for commenting Lauren. When these guys fly towards you - you duck or run. They are very intimidating and they know it. I should have watched it a little longer to see it catch its dinner.
