Nigella damascena
Nigella damascena is an annual garden flowering plant, belonging to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. It is native to southern Europe (but adventive in more northern countries of Europe), north Africa and southwest Asia.
Mostly on neglected, damp patches of land.
The flowers, blooming in early summer, are most commonly different shades of blue, but can be white, pink, or pale purple, with 5 to 25 sepals.
Thank you Marta! And no problem! This one is cultivated though, it's not local in Belgium and the Netherlands according to wiki. But I did see them grow in some forests so I think they spread out easily into wild areas once they are planted in gardens nearby :)
Beautiful, Lizzy!
I have also a spotting to post in the future of thisl type of flower :-)
Thanks to you (and Jopy) I now know the species name. I thought the one I saw was cultivated but now that I see your spotting that it looks in the forest floor, maybe they are wild flowers that grow here in Belgium?
